Trebalo je proći čitavih trideset godina od kako se dodjeljuje jedna od najprestižnijih književnih nagrada u Europi, a riječ je o britanskoj nagradi British Book Award, te da je u tri kategorije dobiju crne književnice. Riječ je o Candice Carty-Williams i Bernardine Evaristo od kojih je prva dobila dvostruku "krunu" – za roman godine te za debitantski roman godine što je osvojila svojim prvijencom "Queenie" koji je preveden i na hrvatski jezik.

Bernardine Evaristo, lanjska dobitnica i nagrade Booker, koju je doduše dijelila s proslavljenom kanadskom spisateljicom Margaret Atwood, sada je proglašena autorom godine i to za svoju knjigu "Girl, Woman, Other", a i ona je prva crna žena koja je ikad pobijedila u toj kategoriji.

Carty-Williams je izjavila da je ponosna i zahvalna na pobjedi, ali i "tužna i zbunjena" time što je prva crna spisateljica koja je dobila glavnu nagradu British Book Awards.

- Općenito, ova pobjeda budi nadu da će se izdavačka industrija, ali i žiriji probuditi i da iako sam prva, neću biti izuzetak te da neću biti i posljednja - rekla je Candice Carty-Williams.

Candice Carty-Williams je 31-godišnja novinarka i scenaristica, a kao novinarka pisala je za BEAT Magazine, Black Ballad, Refinery 29, Guardian, i-D, Vogue International, Sunday Times Style... Teme koje je okupiraju su rasa, seksualnost i identitet, a njezini su tekstovi globalno poznati i dijeljeni na društvenim mrežama. Žiri je za njezin roman "Queenie" kazao kako je riječ o "romanu našega vremena, koji je dovitljiv, mudar i neodoljiv te se ne boji pozabaviti životom mlade, slobodne crne žene u gradu te je, uza sve to, važno promišljanje o prijateljstvu, ljubavi i rasi."

- Snaga romana "Queenie" je u načinu na koji ga osjećate: on je energičar, neobičan. To je tako uvjerljivo i originalno djelo debitantske fikcije - rekla je Pandora Sykes, članica žirija koji je odlučivao o pobjednicima. – To je roman koji otvara teška pitanja o identitetu, rasi, obitelji, heteroseksualnosti i mentalnom zdravlju, destilirajući ta pitanja u prozu koja je lako probavljiva, ali izuzetno snažna.

Bernardine Evaristo je naglasila kako je izbor dviju crnih književnica za laureatkinje ugledne nagrade "zanimljiv trenutak u našoj kulturnoj povijesti jer je pokret Black Lives Matter stvorio neviđenu količinu samopreispitivanja u izdavačkoj industriji", a svoje iskustvo na vrhu ljestvice najprodavanijih naslova opisala kao "prilično nadrealno".

- Pišem vrlo dugo, i nevjerojatno je lijepo znati da moj rad konačno doseže širu čitateljsku publiku. Također je fantastično vidjeti toliko mnogo drugih knjiga obojanih pisaca koje su uzdrmale ljestvice čitanosti. Prilično sam sigurna da je to bez presedana, ali sam također svjesna činjenice da je sve pokrenuto tragedijom smrti Georgea Floyda u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama i toga bismo se uvijek trebali sjećati - kazala je Evaristo.

Ona je, kao 61-godišnja žena i znatno iskusnija književnica, za Candice Carty-Williams kazala da je "izvanredna nova spisateljica koja je napisala savršeno duhovit, karakteran, aktualan i uzbudljiv roman o našoj sadašnjosti.“

Manje razvikana kategorija, ona za krimić godine, također je otišla u ruke tamnopute književnice. Roman "Moja sestra, serijski ubojica", 32-godišnje nigerijsko-britanske autorice Oyinkan Braithwaite koji je preveden i na hrvatski dobio je to priznanje te se s pravom može kazati kako su ovu književnu godinu u Velikoj Britaniji pobjedonosno obilježile žene i to - crne žene.

Trebalo je proći čitavih trideset godina od kako se dodjeljuje jedna od najprestižnijih književnih nagrada u Europi, a riječ je o britanskoj nagradi British Book Award, te da je u tri kategorije dobiju crne književnice. Riječ je o Candice Carty-Williams i Bernardine Evaristo od kojih je prva dobila dvostruku "krunu" – za roman godine te za debitantski roman godine što je osvojila svojim prvijencom "Queenie" koji je preveden i na hrvatski jezik.

Bernardine Evaristo, lanjska dobitnica i nagrade Booker, koju je doduše dijelila s proslavljenom kanadskom spisateljicom Margaret Atwood, sada je proglašena autorom godine i to za svoju knjigu "Girl, Woman, Other", a i ona je prva crna žena koja je ikad pobijedila u toj kategoriji.

Carty-Williams je izjavila da je ponosna i zahvalna na pobjedi, ali i "tužna i zbunjena" time što je prva crna spisateljica koja je dobila glavnu nagradu British Book Awards.

- Općenito, ova pobjeda budi nadu da će se izdavačka industrija, ali i žiriji probuditi i da iako sam prva, neću biti izuzetak te da neću biti i posljednja - rekla je Candice Carty-Williams.

Candice Carty-Williams je 31-godišnja novinarka i scenaristica, a kao novinarka pisala je za BEAT Magazine, Black Ballad, Refinery 29, Guardian, i-D, Vogue International, Sunday Times Style... Teme koje je okupiraju su rasa, seksualnost i identitet, a njezini su tekstovi globalno poznati i dijeljeni na društvenim mrežama. Žiri je za njezin roman "Queenie" kazao kako je riječ o "romanu našega vremena, koji je dovitljiv, mudar i neodoljiv te se ne boji pozabaviti životom mlade, slobodne crne žene u gradu te je, uza sve to, važno promišljanje o prijateljstvu, ljubavi i rasi."

- Snaga romana "Queenie" je u načinu na koji ga osjećate: on je energičar, neobičan. To je tako uvjerljivo i originalno djelo debitantske fikcije - rekla je Pandora Sykes, članica žirija koji je odlučivao o pobjednicima. – To je roman koji otvara teška pitanja o identitetu, rasi, obitelji, heteroseksualnosti i mentalnom zdravlju, destilirajući ta pitanja u prozu koja je lako probavljiva, ali izuzetno snažna.

Bernardine Evaristo je naglasila kako je izbor dviju crnih književnica za laureatkinje ugledne nagrade "zanimljiv trenutak u našoj kulturnoj povijesti jer je pokret Black Lives Matter stvorio neviđenu količinu samopreispitivanja u izdavačkoj industriji", a svoje iskustvo na vrhu ljestvice najprodavanijih naslova opisala kao "prilično nadrealno".

- Pišem vrlo dugo, i nevjerojatno je lijepo znati da moj rad konačno doseže širu čitateljsku publiku. Također je fantastično vidjeti toliko mnogo drugih knjiga obojanih pisaca koje su uzdrmale ljestvice čitanosti. Prilično sam sigurna da je to bez presedana, ali sam također svjesna činjenice da je sve pokrenuto tragedijom smrti Georgea Floyda u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama i toga bismo se uvijek trebali sjećati - kazala je Evaristo.

Ona je, kao 61-godišnja žena i znatno iskusnija književnica, za Candice Carty-Williams kazala da je "izvanredna nova spisateljica koja je napisala savršeno duhovit, karakteran, aktualan i uzbudljiv roman o našoj sadašnjosti.“

Manje razvikana kategorija, ona za krimić godine, također je otišla u ruke tamnopute književnice. Roman "Moja sestra, serijski ubojica", 32-godišnje nigerijsko-britanske autorice Oyinkan Braithwaite koji je preveden i na hrvatski dobio je to priznanje te se s pravom može kazati kako su ovu književnu godinu u Velikoj Britaniji pobjedonosno obilježile žene i to - crne žene.

Tamnopute žene poharale britansku književnu scenu: dodijeljene nagrade British Book Awards, po prvi put slavile dvije crnkinje i to u tri kategorije

Trebalo je proći čitavih trideset godina od kako se dodjeljuje jedna od najprestižnijih književnih nagrada u Europi, a riječ je o britanskoj nagradi British Book Award, te da je u tri kategorije dobiju crne književnice. Riječ je o Candice Carty-Williams i Bernardine Evaristo od kojih je prva dobila dvostruku "krunu" – za roman godine te za debitantski roman godine što je osvojila svojim prvijencom "Queenie" koji je preveden i na hrvatski jezik.

Bernardine Evaristo, lanjska dobitnica i nagrade Booker, koju je doduše dijelila s proslavljenom kanadskom spisateljicom Margaret Atwood, sada je proglašena autorom godine i to za svoju knjigu "Girl, Woman, Other", a i ona je prva crna žena koja je ikad pobijedila u toj kategoriji.
