Christopher Thompson, izvanredni profesor na Odjelu za biologiju na Sveučilištu Loyola u Marylandu, rekao je da “većina dostupnih podataka o tome kako alkohol utječe na imunološki sustav i imunološki odgovor nakon cijepljenja sugeriraju da bi ljudi trebali izbjegavati veće količine alkohola u razdoblju cijepljenja”.

Niti jedno kliničko ispitivanje koja su vezana za odobrena cjepiva nije promatralo utječe li alkohol na učinkovitost cjepiva. No, Thompson ističe da pretjerana konzumacija alkohola može uzrokovati manju učinkovitost imunološkog sustava, odnosno da bi alkohol mogao smanjiti učinkovitost samog cjepiva.

Poremećaj imunoloških stanica

“Vidimo funkcionalni poremećaj regulacije mnogih imunoloških stanica, dok istovremeno vidimo porast upale i proupalnih molekula u cijelom tijelu”, objasnio je Thompson.

Prema Nacionalnom institutu za zlouporabu alkohola i alkoholizam (NIAAA), pretjerana konzumacija alkohola definira se kao ispijanje više od četiri alkoholnih pića u danu za muškarce i više od tri alkoholnih pića u danu za žene.

Umjerene količine ne bi trebale utjecati na učinkovitost cjepiva

S druge strane, neki zdravstveni stručnjaci navode da poneko alkoholno piće nakon cijepljenja ne bi trebalo izazvati problem.

Dr. lhem Messaoudi, direktor Centra za istraživanje virusa na Kalifornijskom sveučilištu Irvine, koji je provodio istraživanje o učincima alkohola na imunološki odgovor, rekao je za The New York Times da umjereno ispijanje alkohola ne bi trebalo utjecati na učinkovitost cjepiva.

Ne više od dva pića u danu

NIAAA umjereno pijenje definira kao ispijanje ne više od dva alkoholna pića u danu za muškarce, odnosno ne više od jednog alkoholnog pića u danu za žene. No, Messaoudi upozorava da umjereno pijenje može brzo izmaknuti kontroli.

“Budite svjesni onoga što umjereno pijenje znači. Opasno je piti velike količine alkohola jer to utječe na sve biološke sustave, uključujući imunološki sustav.

Ti učinci su prilično jaki i javljaju se prilično brzo nakon što popijete više od onoga što se smatra umjerenim količinama”, kazao je Messaoudi.

Budite hidratizirani 

Prema nekim stručnjacima, bilo koja količina alkohola vjerojatno će pogoršati nuspojave nakon cijepljenja. Tania Elliott, klinička instruktorica medicine u NYU Langone Health, navodi da bi alkoholna pića mogla pogoršati neke nuspojave, uključujući bolove u mišićima i općenitu slabost kod čovjeka.

Naime, mnogi simptomi mamurluka zrcale potencijalne nuspojave cjepiva protiv covida-19, a to uključuje simptome poput umora, glavobolje, bolova u mišićima i mučnine. Te biste nuspojave mogli izbjeći ako izbjegavate alkohol nakon cijepljenja.

Nakon cijepljenja biste se trebali usredotočiti na to da budete hidratizirani, odnosno trebate unositi dovoljno tekućine u tijelo, savjetuje Best life. Stručnjaci upozoravaju da nedovoljno tekućine nakon cijepljenja može pogoršati nuspojave.

“Dehidracija ili nedovoljan unos tekućine nakon cijepljenja mogu pogoršati nuspojave cjepiva”, rekao je Robert Quigley, regionalni medicinski direktor za međunarodnu SOS pomoć i MedAire. Centar za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC) također savjetuje da “pijete puno tekućine” ako imate nuspojave cjepiva – posebno ako imate vrućicu.
